This post has a couple of wonderful, old barns from here in Central Missouri. Doesn’t seeing old barns take you back to simpler times? It sure does for me! Days of wandering in waist deep grasses, picking wildflowers for mother, watching for snakes, ticks & ground hornet nests …… Well maybe it wasn’t so simple 😉 But regardless, hope you enjoy these finds from a drive last spring coming home from another one of many doctor appointments.

I love barns. These are great. And while you don’t need a door in every photo, I think that last one does have a door, on the shorter left hand side.

That aside about the snakes, ticks and ground hornet nests made me laugh – you talked yourself right out of “simpler times” mid-sentence. Our kids do that to my nostalgia constantly. I’ll start describing some idyllic field I wandered as a kid and then remember the chiggers. Glad the first one isn’t abandoned, too. A barn that’s still in use has a completely different feel than one that’s just standing there.

I’m not usually so negative but there’s been a lot of talk here about the alpha-gal infections from tick bites. Never had to worry about those things, not even Lymes disease, back in the day. So I’m blaming the times we live in. lol And yes a barn is same as a house. There’s life in them when in use. And not necessarily biological, just a feeling. Thanks so much for your visit!

I like that you’ve captured them in their natural habitats — fields, trees, and open air. Yes, it’s tempting to think of simpler times, but, as you note, if we look more closely, we see those hornets. But I think the complications then were easier to deal with than are the complications now. The barn is such a steady thing. I think that’s part of its appeal too. I hope the steadiness of these old barns slowly overtakes those memories of doctor trips.
