In 1909, Robert Peary made it to the North Pole. Meanwhile, in Columbia, Missouri, they were busy lining streets with brick. Broadway was one of the earliest streets at that time and this home I’m featuring today was from that era.
The house above and garage are connected. But drive-by photos don’t always allow for the wide angles we need. Also, trees hinder a good shot as the last pic demonstrates. But I included it anyway. I’m just wondering if it’ll have a nice flower pot or statue added at some point? Sorry for the shadows that hide the house door.
Since we are in the midst of the Winter Olympics and just for fun, some famous Olympic participants who attended the University of Missouri in Columbia are:
- J’den Cox (Wrestling): Columbia native and Mizzou alum who won a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
- Karissa Schweizer (Track & Field): Represented the U.S. in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
- Mikel Schreuders (Swimming): Represented Aruba in the 2016 and 2020 Olympics.
- Fabian Schwingenschlögl (Swimming): Represented Germany in the 2020 Olympics.
- Ian Kinsler (Baseball): Former Mizzou athlete who competed for Israel in the 2020 Olympics.
- Dominique Bouchard & Mack Darragh (Swimming): Represented Canada in 2016.
- Shari Mann (Gymnastics): A Columbia-based coach selected to judge at the 2024 Olympic trials.
Hope you’ll be a participant in visiting Dan @ NoFacilities where he hosts all the Thursday Doors entrants. Also I hope you’ll check back this weekend for the Sunday Sampler where I share what’s going on in the Sewing Room.

This is an interesting post. I like it when people put things in perspective. When I visit Pittsburgh, we still see a lot of brick streets.
