Sharing another home from our city’s Victorian Towers neighborhood. A description of this residential area I found summarized by an AI overview as follows:

Situated in the residential west-central area of Sedalia, close to downtown, parks, and local schools. Features late 1800s and early 1900s single-family character homes, many designed by notable period architects showcasing classic spindles, gables, and landmark corner towers. This 1900’s home is one of the earlier ones built during a boom in home-building in this particular area of town. Only one bath for this 5-bedroom would have me a bit uncertain in this current day. One word for this. How?!

The map below shows, from the 2021 Historic Architectural Survey, this home fits that timeframe. The blue notes homes that were built between 1890 – 1899. If you were curious why there was such a boom in home-building? In the 1890s, Sedalia residents raised money and secured land to induce the Missouri Pacific Rairoad Company to expand its repair shops. Hoping to share more of these doors as time allows. A side note for my fellow bloggers and my readers: The next couple of weeks puts Sedalia into a different realm of internet supply/demand. That’s due to the fact that we are host to the Missouri State Fair each year – the first half of August – and our population triples at times.   1. Great photos. Wonderful porch and entryway. I like how the white wood columns extend to the upper story. The bay window on the left is unique. I have not seen anything like it before. Great share. Thank you for the insight into the history of this home.

  5. When I was younger, I would look at a house like this with longing and envy, wanting so badly to move in and work on it. Boy, has that changed! I still admire such old homes but the thought of repair and maintenance makes me cringe. I also cringe at the ratio of five bedrooms to one bathroom. Indeed: HOW??? What a grand old neighborhood that must be, though. Good luck surviving the state fair!

    • I completely agree!! Younger self would have loved the stairs. Older self, Not. I will definitely be admiring from afar and hoping they don’t all turn into split up rentals. Of course they’d have to add extra bathrooms. ha Thanks for the fair wishes as well. We would love to go this year but hubs isn’t quite there yet. Just hoping for good internet this go-round.

  6. Sedalia and the Missouri State Fair: where the livestock have pedigrees, the tractors have more horsepower than most sports cars, and everyone else has a story that starts with “you’re not gonna believe this, but…”

    • I have more Fair stories from days gone by than I want to remember! ha But mostly good ones at least. I’ll not have to worry about my steps as I won’t be attending this year, but thanks for stopping by. Internet is holding on so far……
