Hope this first day of November finds all readers doing well! I’ve had some posts planned for a good while and this is one of them. I haven’t seen much from the Kansas City area here in the Thursday Doors challenge so I hope to return more often to ‘show you the sights‘. With our life having had major detours, it’s been so nice to have this plan come to fruition. So today, let me show you a piece of The Plaza!

The Country Club Plaza circa 1930’s on the left and a wonky current view to the right. Photos courtesy of the Internet.

Due to the blur, (sorry Dan I need to find that post), I’m detailing these photos here. The fountain on the left, King Neptune, was KC’s first fountain. I have some details for it in the link. It has the notoriety of being KC’s first fountain. The fountain on the right is the JC Nichols Fountain in Mill Creek Park. I love the sound of fountains! So relaxing and peaceful.
Below are various spots along the main road, 47th street. The Spanish-inspired style is featured throughout.

The Country Club Plaza in Kansas City was developed by J.C. Nichols, opening in 1923 with a Spanish-inspired architectural style. It was a groundbreaking project as the first regional shopping center designed for automobiles, featuring parking and common management. Originally an ambitious and somewhat risky venture that skeptics dubbed “Nichols’ Folly,” it has become a historic landmark known for its distinctive architecture, art, and annual traditions like the Christmas lights.
And next, our reason for the KC trip was to meet up with the kids for Ron’s 2nd Bone Marrow Transplant Birthday & my 60th birthday, just days apart in October. Fun fact, Ron & I had our first date on his BMT Birthday. God is so good! Never doubt it! Thank you to them for celebrating us! That Brazilian food was phenomenal too!!

Sewing this week was a lot of catching up for an upcoming craft show. But I received an email from a penpal who loved her new Pumpkin mug rug 😉 I thought it was so nice to get this photo from her. Hugs across the miles to my penfriend, Colleen!
If you’ve not met the Thursday Doors crowd, please take time to visit Dan@NoFacilities for the latest doors posts. So many doors around the world to see!!

Great photos, history and doors. My brother (Ames, IA) it trying to talk me into a day trip to KC the next time I visit him. I’m glad you were able to go for a family visit.

Oh, I love the Plaza ❤️ I enjoy visiting it each year when visiting family in the KC area each Christmas. I love the ambiance created by the lights, the architecture, the fountains, and the holiday spirit. And side note… I noticed that the new KC airport has an art installation inspired by Kansas City’s fountains, including the extra-special ones down on the Plaza.

My sister just flew in this evening. I’ll have to ask her about that. Thanks! The Plaza is certainly magical at Christmas!

Aw, now you brought forth the memories of amazing holiday lights and equally amazing barbecue. We miss both. 🙂

What great reasons to celebrate — happy 60th! Isn’t it interesting to note that this mall was so strange that it even had parking for cars! Imagine that! I agree about fountains — a lovely sound.
