Patchwork/Inez’sClippings

Trying to patch together a blog post this week with some of the latest happenings. To begin I’ll share a photo of a completed gift item that I used a super, soft yarn on. My niece was the recipient of the little receiving blanket made with “Feels Like Butta” yarn. And it is so soft! We don’t know the gender at this sitting. She wanted gender neutral colors and I added the blue only because there wasn’t a gold option at the time when I ordered the yarn. Cars, yarn, fabric. The common ‘thread’? Yes, they all come in many colors, but how long do we have to wait on stuff to replenish?? So many shortages still.

My beautiful niece!

With the closure of my in-home daycare, I have been selling equipment, toys and etc. More about that in a later post. Also I’ve been moving my sewing space. Instead of the basement room, I can have a sewing studio with a window and real daylight to work by!! With darker fabrics, this is huge. Artificial light is just not the same as a window next to your workspace. So here are a few preliminary photos. This is a work in progress, so please no judgments on the clutter. It took 30 years to accumulate all those toys and I’ve just now managed to get a space for Bernice, my roll of batting, and the ironing board.

One project I’ll be working on as time permits is a quilt kit I ‘inherited’ from a very generous family member. I actually inherited a significant amount of quilt kits and more from this person. So if you are reading, Thank you! While working on graduation invitations, I made the following discovery to aid with the progress on these kits. I was sitting across from my daughter making templates and watched her use a white ink pen on her dark envelopes. So just let the pictures speak for themselves below on what happened next.

I might add that if you are trying this pen out, it’s important to draw on the wrong side for a couple reasons. If you mess up, there’s no erasing. You are only given exact amounts of fabric in a kit. Not much extra. And there is no risk of it showing through on the completed quilt block when tracing on the wrong side. But if you have been trying white chalk pens, go no further. This will change your life!

I’m not sure what the title has to do with Patchwork, but it is a cute clipping from Inez’s Stash.

  1. I know there were pros and cons when deciding to close your daycare, but it’s nice to have such a good positive outcome where you can sew and smile at the upgrade in facilities. 🙂 You do beautiful work, and your niece is a lovely woman, and I hope she has a healthy and happy baby. I hope ‘all’ is well with your family. Thinking of you and wishing the best.
