Rustic Charm

Saturday drop for my Thursday Doors contribution. This usually means I’m running behind and that the pics will be fewer. Why break with tradition?? So hope you enjoy my time-saving share this week.

I’ve left these uncaptioned because I didn’t want the blur. But you can tell this one has a story to tell with the extra outbuildings, additions to the back of the house, and with the old knarled trees in the yard. You know the saying, “Here’s Your Sign.” I just love it! I was even lucky enough to capture half the front door in the final shot. The last photo has a dog at the end of the drive too. All good farms have a guard dog. Mine from my childhood chased the cars going down the road. Had a couple schoolmates tell me they clocked him at 25 mph. hehe I’m just glad he never got hit by said vehicles. Enough of memory lane. Time for the quilting segment.

Christmas Quilt To-Be in the Studio

I’ve acquired these blocks that were 16 inches square through a family member. They called one day to let me know they had some fabric if I’d just stop by to pick it up. I wish I’d taken a photo of ‘some fabric’ because the bed of our pick-up looked like something out of ‘The Beverly Hillbillies”. We had tubs piled up and secured with straps and bungie cords. It was kind of embarrassing on the 2 hour ride home. But looking back, I think it was a moment in time to savor. With all the closings of fabric stores, you know the one, it was a blessing in my humble opinion. So just sharing the before photo of the blocks assembled and awaiting borders & completion.

Remember, God’s got your back!

  1. My wife (the quilter) mentioned that the last of the fabric stores (within a 26km radius) has closed down and she previously had many to choose from. And what a lovely looking residence – nice pics.

  2. That’s a house with a history to tell. Handsome and brings a smile. Your quilt is lovely, truly lovely. As for fabric, the only options we have here are two very small and expensive quilt shops, and I mean very. I don’t do well ordering fabric on line. It seems I never pick the right color unless I buy all the colors I need from one line which again gets pricey. I know your stash donation was a challenge moving and probably sorting, but I’m guessing you are smiling as you utilize it.

    • Thank you! I used to wish for a big ol’ house like that but now I now I’d have been terrible keeping up with all that space. lol And shopping online is definitely different than in person. I feel your pain! Crossing fingers that the Hobby Lobby here will increase their fabric selection. Fabric desert is a phrase I think will become common for so many of us.

  3. I missed this lovely property on Saturday. I’m late catching up, too. I’ll include this in next week’s recap. The photos tell a story without the captions. The quilt is beautiful! Well done.

My father-in-law made arrangements for a wood carver to give me his stash of wood when he could no longer work in his shop. I didn’t really want it, but they were both so happy to give it to me. They’ve both passed, and I’ve been trying to make some small things from “the pile.”

  4. Indeed that house must have endless stories to tell, and apparently quilters do too! I am enjoying the image of the Beverly Hillbillies move — and what a beautiful quilt you made of it. Though I barely know a needle from a thread, I was stunned that JoAnn closed down. That was a real loss.
