Benton County Barn Quilt #4

A Happy July 4th from us to you who celebrate the U.S. Independence Day! I have a kinda cool door to share with a lovely barn quilt. I felt it was very appropriate for the day and hope you enjoy the information shared online from the Benton County Barn Quilt Trail.

#4 BOB AND WANDA BROWN – 400 N BOONEVILLE (U HIGHWAY), COLE CAMP, MO

This barn was constructed by the Eickhoffs to house horses and probably a milk cow as many of the early residents had “mini” farmettes even in the city limits.

E.L. and Betty Eickhoff, owners of the barn, later used it for beef cattle and storage. When Benton County Tourism wanted to display a barn quilt on it, Wanda Brown wanted to design the quilt. She did, to honor E.L’s years as a pilot. Especially his service in WWII, flying the hump in China, which many times was a death sentence.

The center section of the barn was the original part of the barn. But E.L. added the lean-to on the North and South sides in the 1960’s to be used for hay storage.

This barn has several ‘door’ choices. Open concept or closed.
A one-of-a-kind quilt design which made me wonder about fabric plane quilt blocks…..

So from the wonderful world of Pinterest, I found several plane varieties to share while we’re on the topic of planes. I have oodles of quilt patterns, but not one plane. So besides wanting to share them, I’m also downloading a free one for my own use someday. One must be prepared, right? So hope you enjoy the different ways to incorporate a plane into a quilt. Til next time, please fly on over to Dan @ No Facilities for more wonderful door posts for the week.

I regret I’ve been absent off and on a few weeks. Here on the homefront, Mother broke her hip, caught c diff, and moved out of a nursing home & into my sisters for a bit. We are celebrating her return home today! There’s No Place Like Home!! Ron’s getting better a little each day and recouping his numbers, going through physical therapy and letting God’s perfect timing take control. Transplants are no joke.

  1. Thank you for the beautiful barn photos and the quilt patterns. I love barns. This one is a fine example and looks well maintained. I have not seen one with many door choices…excellent.
    Happy 4th of July!

  2. You know I love barns, so these are perfect photos. I love the quilt patterns, too. We live in the landing path of BDL, so we see all kinds of planes all day.

The banjo humor is very good today, too.

  3. The banjo humor was a laugh-out-loud for me. As for the quilting, it is so far from my abilities that it always is awe-inspiring, that quilt pattern on the barn especially so. A broken hip and c. diff? Good heavens! I’m glad she’s home and that other healing is notable too. What a lot to deal with!
