Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis-Lindell Blvd.

It may appear I’m repeating last weeks post, but not so. I have a photo collection of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis located on Lindell Boulevard. We were a mere 2 blocks from this beautiful church. According to the website, ground was broken for this building on May 1, 1907 and was not completed for 80 years!!

From the history of the Cathedral website: “Even though the Cathedral Basilica is technically completed, there will be changes and additions as each generation adds its imprint to this very special sacred space. The Sacred Heart of Jesus Shrine, located in the west transept, is the most recent addition to the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis. It was consecrated by Archbishop Raymond Burke on June 17, 2007.

We had many visits to the doctor and passed by the cathedral with hopes for catching the perfect photo. There were days with delivery trucks parked in front, tour busses with masses (no pun intended) of sightseers unloading and a regular set of cherry pickers parked in various spots at the entrance. And then there were the leaves and shadows. Each drive by brought a new challenge. Even our daughter who parked and took photos had to navigate some of these same issues to acquire images for me. So this week I’m sharing the various angles we came up with on the exterior of this magnificent building for my Thursday Doors entry.

A progression of the seasons is visible above, along with the shadows and cherry pickers.

I’ll be sharing the interior next time and you won’t want to miss it! But until then, grab yourself a nice cup of coffee and stop over at Dan’s @ NoFacilities to see all the wonderful Thursday Doors contributions.

  1. All the hoo-ha around the church certainly makes for a photographer’s headache, but churches like this one belong in the thick of things. So I like the busyness you and your daughter have captured. I look forward to seeing the inside!
