Due to a day long event of labs, biopsy, transfusions and infusions on Thursday, I’m joining up with my Thursday Doors companions a day later this week. I just needed a good rest if I’m honest here. And so did my dear beloved—-more than I did. We’re on the 3-day-a-week, 6 hours of transfusions plan. But I hope you find my post worth the wait. I have a pretty cool donation, or Door-nation, to add even if I do say so myself. So hope you enjoy!

We visited the Quiet Room on the 8th floor one evening when our youngest daughter visited. The view is great in the photos but it’s so much better to see in person. The furniture is comfortable and the reason it’s called the quiet room speaks volumes when you look out and see the horizon. The bottom right photo has a Helen Keller quote: “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” I would like to add that Prayer is needed in this equation. If there is one common denominator in Ron’s journey, That Is It. Period.

Fact worth sharing: According to our Transplant Coordinator at Truman VA Hospital, Ron is the only patient with AML that has survived a bone marrow transplant from that hospital. We are kickin’ cancer’s ass! The journey is far from over, but he has fought like a champ. So proud of him!

We are so blessed to have so many to think of us while we are here, and I wanted to mention a particular couple who reached out to us. My classmate, pictured above, and her husband were both in school with me back in the day. They had a family member here during the same time, going through a very difficult health ordeal. The quiet room was our place to meet, reminisce, catch up and finally and most importantly, have a word of prayer together. I cannot tell you how nice it was for them to seek me out. Did you know this hospital has 40 buildings associated with it?? I admire them for their determination to find us. A verse from the Bible that feels appropriate:

Carry each others burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galations 6:28

And I conclude with the mandatory door photo. This is a sign on the door as it was a pretty generic door. But Walking in Wisdom is a reference to making the best use of time in the time we are here.
