A Little Get-Away

Badge2025

A Hiatus was definitely taken; from blogging at least. So getting myself back on track-ish with this week’s Thursday Doors contribution.

Spent a few days in Wichita at the home of the ‘newlyweds’. Was a grand ol’ time! Keep in mind that we have been home most days, other than for doctor or hospital visits, for going on 2 1/2 years. Then there was that October wedding that we were super excited for. But I digress. The times we have socialized have been very far and few between due to hub’s low immunity. So this felt like such a breath of fresh air!! Our hosts went out of their way on Father’s Day weekend to make Ron comfortable and have the best time. Me too, of course, but I’m pretty easy to please (wink). So the next few posts will be from our excursion to enjoy the company of our kids. It’s good to be back with some stuff to share!

Gate into McConnell Air Force Base.

This only door for this post. But a defining one for Wichita, the Aviation Capital of the World. This title recognizes the long history of aircraft manufacturing you will find here, both past and present. Very impressive!

The Flint Hills are the largest intact tall grass prairie in the world. I never tire of looking at these rolling hills, especially when the clouds decide to show off. The Great Out’Doors’ that I hope will add to the Doors count.

Woodrow The Great

A photo for you of a Real Good Boi! We are now friends forever. He was super excited every morning to greet us. I mean this in the truest form. haha (I should’ve made a video) And we cannot wait to see our bonus pup next time!

We were treated to a Fabulous Brazilian Style meal. Our dear son-in-law spent a major part of his life growing up in Brazil. So we felt very priviledged to get a taste of this genuine-made feast of these meats and fixins! The topping on the side is called farofa, made from toasted cassava, eaten as a topping on nearly everything, in Brazil. I deeply regret not getting a photo of the salsa that both Ron & I fell in love with. Churrasco will definitely become a staple in my home. Recipe is downloaded, printed and ready to fix this weekend!!

Halloumi – Grilling Cheese

Unavailable for the event was a Brazilian cheese called Coalho. But the one we were served was perfect in my opinion. Everything had such harmony–and I definitely feel like I’m writing a foodie post. haha But if you ever have the opportunity to try a Brazilian Steakhouse, Do Go! And be ready to get your plate filled! So good!

Got a few new items fresh off the needle. Sadly my quilter is still in the shop. So as the ol’ Marine hubs taught me, Improvise, Adapt, Overcome.

Potholders sold as sets in the shop. Measure a generous 9 x 9 to protect your hands. Great for those backyard barbecues this summer or to gift your favorite cook.

Thanks Dan for hosting the Thursday Doors each week. Please take time to check out NoFacilities where he hosts all of us door fanatics. It’s a great way to spend browsing the internet!

Why the banjo humor? I will dive into this quagmire in another post.

  1. The gate and the great out-doors will certainly suffice. I enjoyed reading this post. Of course, I’m hungry, but that’s to be expected after seeing those food photos. I am so glad you guys had such a good time. I think, after all you’ve been through, that was well deserved.

  2. It’s good to see you here, and I agree about that expanse of the Flint Hills — a person can take a deep breath there. I vote that hole in the sky as a door, and a splendid one! Sounds as though your son-in-law’s kitchen is a door too — trying new food is opening a door, isn’t it? Of course I love the banjo humor. When I was growing up, taking piano lessons, I wondered if musicians had any sense of humor. I should have taken banjo lessons.

    • Thank you! Doors are open everywhere arent’ they?! And my music teacher was a light hearted lady but one who rarely cracked a joke. I’d say she’s giggling from heaven now. 😉 Thanks for the visits!! Glad to be back.
