You may wonder what a grizzly bear has to do with Thursday Doors? Well hold on and I’ll explain. But first there are some doors to share from the streets of Canon City, Colorado. Credit to my youngest daughter who is graciously supporting my photo entries yet again. You may click on a pic to take you to the gallery for a larger view of each.
Old Mose is a legend of Fremont County, which is where you’ll find Canon City. Hence, the mural depicting the grizzly on this building.
The next video is a mere 2 minutes long and fair warning: banjo music included. I hope you will enjoy the simplicity of the Ballad of Old Mose. But more importantly, the explanation given by the narrator. It’s a fun way to spend 2 minutes of your blog surfing. Bonus— No politics involved.

Nice post. Coincidentally last night I listened to a very interesting interview with a bear expert Dr Lynn Rogers, the pre-eminent authority on black bear behaviour, who for 60 years has contributed to the understanding of these animals . Dr Rogers also founded both the Wildlife Research Institute in Ely, Minnesota and the North American Bear Center. Fascinating interview.

Thank you! We have honey bears in my state but there are black bears making a comeback. Enough that they reinstated a small hunting season. I am an advocate of all wildlife and I can see that interview being very important. Thank you for sharing.

That strange sound you just heard was me laughing out loud. I can’t believe I lived so many years without knowing about the literary genre “Banjo Humor.” Al Capone with the banjo did it to me. I am now fortified for the week ahead.
If by chance you know Walt Disney’s “Robin Hood,” you will hear the Old Mose song in the “Robin Hood and Little John” song. Probably a well-known folk melody. Keeping a straight face while banjo-ing and singing that song would be no small feat.
And I love that old, old door.

Into Spam? Well, humph! But I’ve sure had some weird troubles leaving comments the last month or so. Thanks for retrieving me! Oh, and it isn’t exactly the Old Mose song in “Robin Hood” — it’s the melody. The lyrics are about Robin Hood and Littlejohn. Also a very cool song!

Good to know. I’ve never seen Robin Hood. No cable tv on the farm and very few movie visits. Luckily we now have Disney Plus so I’ll be putting that on while quilting this weekend! Thanks!

One more! We had (and I still have) the old vinyl record of Disney’s “Robin Hood.” My sons used to listen to it at bedtime and my older son, the dad of the two trick-or-treaters, claims that record still puts him to sleep! I think we did see the animated film, but it’s the record that became indelible.
