No Scrap Left Behind

I nearly let this Sunday go by due to the holidays pressing in. I’m taking a week off from adding shop listings (unless otherwise compelled). This week is for concentrating on some projects I selfishly want to finish for myself. Some are for gifting and others for my own joy of just enjoying the process. Me time is in order in other words.

Someone once told me that if you have a fabric you strongly dislike, then you just have not cut it small enough. Insert my scrap piles here. Cutting those fabrics small enough to be able to turn under the raw edges is where creativity and math must meet in order to put those pieces to good use. In another post, I can disclose ways to not worry about raw edges. But not today.

To the left, a scrap of fabric with raw edges showing. However, it is pretty — unlikely to be a problem for any project thankfully. To the right are lots of fabric scraps cut to 3/4-inch sizes, turned under, basted, and sewn together — all by hand. I would like to note that some prefer to machine-piece these, but I have always clung to handwork for at least a portion of my makes. Hexies are a great project to take along on long car ride, at dr. appointments or when you want to multitask during your favorite tv show.

An unfinished project to share this time. But I will let you see that this is double-sided. I cannot sell licensed fabric in my shop unless it’s just selling the fabric. Subject for another day. But when making gifts or just something for myself, the sky is the limit. So I am using this retro coke fabric for one side of my mini wreath ornament and the other red fabric for the reverse side.

Isn’t this origami ornament adorable??!!

I have a certain penpal in mind for this item who keeps mailing me origami items. I am such an admirer of paper & fabric folding!! But too many irons in the fire for me to try another project. I’m happy being the recipient! In closing, I want to state that thanks to cat ownership, it will not be hanging on the Christmas tree. Maybe next year.
