I am continuing on with the Kansas Aviation Museum this week for my Thursday Doors post. Hope you’ll tag along a little longer to see the gems I found inside!
I think just about everyone, in the Midwest at least, knows that Amelia Earhart is a Kansas born gal. I loved reading about her as a young girl. So it was very fitting that they included some space to her in this exhibit– both for the museums benefit and mine.

Transcontinental Air Transport eventually became TWA. Clement Melville Keys founded it in 1928. He’s not mentioned above in the display. However, Charles Lindburgh is. The property that the museum now sits was formerly property of McConnell and was a refueling stop for this airline. I thought the above photo was a good one of Amelia. The words she spoke were to President Roosevelt, one year before her disappearance.

So many exhibits that I took photos of involved very well-known names. But Cessna should do the trick to give you an example of what I mean there. And the venue space on the upper floor was so elegant! Very unexpected for an aviation museum. If you wanted a dance floor as well, the floor below (last photo) gives you an idea of its spaciousness and visual appeal. Those doors lead to the balcony, which gives even more area to meander. They really thought things through.

A friendly reminder that you can click each photo above to have a larger view. The control tower scenes are courtesy of my eldest daughter who graciously volunteered without my asking to trudge up the narrow staircase. Thanks Rachel!! And finally, the notes are from gradeschoolers who have visited. I love seeing that they get to learn an important part of history in person. Warms my heart!
Thanks Dan @NoFacilities for more opportunities to share our Thursday Doors! I hope you will visit his place for the list of many more blog entries. Good Stuff from around the world.! No flying needed.

Just sharing what’s coming out of the sewing room this week. The EPP, English Paper Piecing, is something new I’m trying. I have a ton of scrap fabric and this is the perfect take-along item for all those doctor appointments. One of those ‘good for the soul’ projects in my humble opinion. The mini quilt on the right shows some quilt lines that are known by quilters. Feather motifs, Ribbon Candy and Orange Peel, respectfully. I am a beginner ‘featherer’ as I still draw mine on before stitching. So the blue lines disappear with a little water on a cotton swab. Or in certain instances, a spray bottle filled with cold distilled water will remove them when they seem stubborn. Just food for thought for my crafty visitors.
Seems a little drastic to flail a banjo. But maybe in desperate situations on the trail??? lol Thanks for visiting Katy Trail Creations!

I love aviation museums and this looks like a really good one. The one near us has a plane similar to the one Amelia Earhart flew when she made her round-the-world attempt. Thanks for sharing your photos.

Yay Amelia! As I was born and raised in NE Kansas, I have a special place in my heart for her 😊✈️ I toured her girlhood home in Atchison once.

English Paper Piecing would have me reaching for the Tylenol in no time. What patience you must have! The aviation museum would be a great antidote to that close work, I’d think. Lots of interesting things there, but I bet the most fun is that display of notes from kids. What a great idea.
It was good that I studied piano. Many the time I wanted to pick it up and swing it at somebody just like that woman with the banjo, but it was too heavy.

Thank you for your patience in my reply at least 🙃 I guess now’s the time to confess that the better the banjo, the heavier they are. So no slinging from me haha
Yes I was thinking the same thing about the kids’ notes! I hope they document them somehow. We bloggers are always thinking of saving the writings. Right?😌
