Compass & Windmill

Been busy behind the sewing machine the last couple weeks so once again, I am posting for Thursday Doors on a Saturday. Very appreciative for the extra time allowed by Dan @ NoFacilities for doing so. This week we are giving you more from Rural America. ‘We’ meaning my youngest daughter who likes photography. Lucky for us or I’d be barren of doors to share. So thanks to her once again for sharing her photos of this barn and barn quilt. I can only tell you that it’s located somewhere between Sedalia, Missouri and Columbia, Missouri. She’s at work right now. And you know the drill, no calls or texts while working. My fault for not asking her sooner.

What we have here is a “Compass” style barn quilt. If you google this topic, you will see just how many varieties of Mariner Compass blocks there are. Too many for me to figure it out at the present. But it is something I aspire to create on my sewing machine. Setting those points is not for the faint of heart. Much easier to paint them on a piece of wood! Regardless, a beautiful block on a barn backdrop is my kind of combination! And the slat door keeps out the larger animals I suppose. It also allows air flow so my bet is there’s some hay in that barn.

Included an extra door quilt here from my own front door. Also makes a great table display. Made this block a few years ago and I’m currently working on a pile of these for the Etsy shop. Hope you enjoy the splash of color from all the quilts shown here today.

I wish I could show you more of the Commission quilt I finished. I can only show you this for now. But by December 26th, I’ll have the reveal available. It is a Christmas gift so I have to do my due diligence on secrecy. The Internet is not a place for privacy.

However, you can visit Dan @ NoFacilities for more wonderful doors. That’s no secret!! Thanks for visiting this week and hope to see you again next time.

Isn’t it a cutie?
