“Sev’ral perfessers, er some such, from a big college was snoopin’ round th’ McCroskey farm yestiddy lookin’ for fossils, but all they found wuz th’ hired man asleep in th’ barn.”

I have now spent over 30 days living in either the hospital or at a ‘lodge for patients and their caregivers’. Feeling much like a fossil at this point myself. Depending on either a cafeteria or microwaveable meals was enough to fossilize my innards. Took some photos of some of the meals and giving you my personal critique on each one. You might be surprised.

This sounded so delicious & I waited patiently in line for it. The presentation is pretty to look at. But something was missing after I started eating & I finally decided it was the meat! Fries got soggy and I guess I’m picky about that. Wouldn’t choose it again. It was such a sad meal.

Potato Bar day!

Sausage of any kind is my cryptonite. Add Bacon, butter & sour cream… Bam!

Do you know what I like about this pizza? I hadn’t had any for 30 days! Fresh out of the oven, too. It was like being stranded on Survivor Island and finally given real food. It was so satisfying!

This was a meal deal! For $9 + some pennies, I had all of this and the portions were very generous. Love my vegies too. I have to admit I kinda liked the blue cheese in the slaw. Is that a new thing I’ve missed?? I probably wouldn’t make mine like that but I wouldn’t turn it down if offered it again either. A cool idea for slaw.

The surprise item that I think should be offered more often. The ingredients were spot on. Pork, bok choy, barley noodles, onions, sesame seeds & lots of soupy sauce. Not what I ever expected from a hospital cafeteria. My compliments to the kitchen!!

To my mother who thought I might not get enough nutrition while staying with my beloved. Rest assured. I’m very glad there were many, many steps between our room and the cafeteria or I might need new clothes. 😉 And to the AI assistant who thinks my writing needs more ‘polish’. I polished my meals off just fine, By Hecke!

I think a banjo might have one up on the guitar & neighbors. hehe

  1. Your family has been on quite the medical journey, but along the way you’ve kept your sense of humor and found satisfaction in things you encountered like your meals. I love good coleslaw and blue cheese so I think I’d like that combo. I can always go for pizza, but I think I’d pass on the soggy fries. 🙂 Prayers this journey finds you heading home soon after the treatment is determined to be successful. 🙏
