Another collaborative Thursday Doors today thanks to my youngest daughter. On a recent concert trip, she and her friends stopped to do a short little, self-guided tour of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. It’s wonderful that the next generation appreciates our country’s history, don’t you think?!
Ste. Genevieve sits along the Mississippi River in eastern Missouri. It is Missouri’s oldest permanent European settlement west of the Mississippi. But today we’re focusing on the church I have photos of. Ste.Genevieve Catholic Church founded in 1759 and is the oldest recorded parish in the archdiocese of St. Louis. But the Catholic faith was first brought to the settlement by Father Marquette in 1673. It’s hard for me to fathom Missouri being settled so early in our American history. Especially since statehood didn’t come about until 1821.

A very striking church with an interesting history, being three times built. Interesting reading, thank you. I love all things brick.

I was excited my girl got photos of this one! It’s a 4 hour or so drive from our home (depending on traffic) so not your everyday Sunday drive destination lol Thanks for stopping by 😊

It is nice to see younger people interested in history. I like to think it happens to us all sooner or later. The church is beautiful, and I like its self-described mission and welcoming message.
The banjo humor reminded me of a cartoon I saw recently. I thought of you.

Not sure how it happens that the appreciation starts, but very glad when it does. Surely it’s all these combined Thursday Doors posts in the challenge 😉 It’s been 1 week without my banjo so having serious withdrawals. Trying to bribe the staff to let me keep it in Ron’s room—with a mute. Stay tuned …….
