Page 16/Inez’s Clippings

I got all my quilt blocks for the “Double Irish Chain” done except two. Orville and Muriel went to Osceola this afternoon to take some chickens.

Sun. Jan. 19, 1930

I wrote 3 letters today and made out an order to Sears, Roebuck & Co. It is warmer but it is snowing again. The mailman did not go yesterday.

Mon. Jan. 20, 1930

It won’t be long now until the eighth graders will be taking exams. I sure hope they pass. At least in most of the subjects. The weather is not any better. It snowed this afternoon and evening. I sent my letters this morning and an order to Sears for Mother’s birthday present, my combination suit, and a Gamebook besides some other things. I was…… (to be contd.)

Pg. 16 — Grandma’s Day Journal– My Hunter Family Collection

Quilting! Finally Grandma speaks my language! It may only be one line, but it warms my heart anyway. With the coming of Christmas, I am always thinking of my next quilt project. Last year I finished 3 lap-sized quilts. But still so much to get done.

Thankfully, I have completed some items this past week–mainly masks. But this time I’m sharing a sweet gift I received from my English penpal. I believe our American tea kettles are a bit larger than their variety, but I made it work 🙂

  1. Sounds like Inez was a keen shopper! With all those orders going into Sears et al, I bet today she’d be shopping online 😀

    You gift from your friend is cheerful. It’s a tea cosy and here in the UK we wouldn’t put it on a kettle but on a tea pot, which is smaller 🙂

    • Thanks for the clarification. It’s hard to find a tea kettle here. But next time I get to shop in the mall (who knows when? lol) I will be on the lookout 🙂 & yes grandma seemed like she wanted to follow the fashion trends.
