CCFD #3, Cripple Creek, Colorado

2024 Badge

Completed in 1900 after 2 catastrophic fires wiped out 47 acres and 400 buildings, Cripple Creek Fire Station #3 is now a museum. Commemorating bravery of firefighters over its history, it houses photos and displays. Cripple Creek, Colorado was once a pretty big mining town. And thanks to Pinterest for this old map showing all the mining in the area back in its prime.

Old maps are pretty great!

Hope to share one more post of Cripple Creek next time. But until then, I hope you’ll take time to stop by Dan’s @ No Facilities for some premium doors posts! Taking a trip down memory lane next with one of my audio performances from 10 years ago. Hope you’ll enjoy this version of Cripple Creek! Cripple Creek is the Quitessential bluegrass song taught to students.

Lyrics to Cripple Creek are as follows:

I got a girl and she loves me
She’s as sweet as sweet can be
She’s got eyes of baby blue
Makes my gun shoot straight and true.

Goin’ up Cripple Creek goin’ in a run
Goin’ up Cripple Creek to have some fun.

Cripple Creek’s wide and Cripple Creek’s deep
I’ll wade old Cripple Creek before I sleep
Roll my breeches to my knees
I’ll wade ol’ Cripple Creek when I please

I went down to Cripple Creek
To see what them girls had to eat
I got drunk and fell against the wall
Old corn likker was the cause of it all

  1. I listened to it three times, in awe every time! But it was way shorter than I wanted it to be. The creek in the snow, along with the banjo-ing, was exactly what I needed this morning! Complicated and simple all at once. Good stuff. I have to say, though, that “she’s got eyes of baby blue/makes my gun shoot straight and true” are not the most romantic lines I’ve ever heard! Thanks for taking us to Cripple Creek!
