Across the Street, 2nd & Kentucky/ThursdayDoors

The 2023 Badge

A few weeks ago I intended to share a sister post to the 2nd and Kentucky/Thursday Doors. But low and behold, each time we drove by, there was a big, yellow school bus parked there. It pretty much blocked the view I wanted to capture. No complaints. Just an explanation on my tardiness. But apparently, once school started, the bus was back in action and out of the way. So, presenting it now without further delay.

A bit of history of Bryant Motors. The corner door faces the direction of where the car sales lot and dealership once sat. Established in 1936, the company recently (1 year ago) joined with another dealership. From the pages of their site, I gleened this information about the early years of Bryant Motors in Sedalia.

When the Bryant Motors Chrysler dealership first opened up its doors back in 1936, Sedalia was just starting to recover from the devastating stock market crash and the Great Depression that followed it. In fact, Life Magazine dubbed Sedalia the second hardest hit city by the Great Depression in the entire United States. Many downtown buildings were vacant or divided into numerous housing units.

In 1932, the community of Sedalia finally received some good news – the city was chosen as a thru-way of U.S. Highway 65 and an east-west route through town was also selected as the site of U.S. 50. The new affordability of automobiles, as well as the car culture that came with the two new major highways, breathed new life back into the region.

It was around this time that Bryant Motors Chrysler opened up shop in downtown Sedalia as a one-of-a-kind new and used car lot, auto repair & maintenance shop, and more.

Thanks for visiting this week and I hope you will also find time to stop in at Dan’s corner of the world at No Facilities to view more doors from the Thursday Doors Challenge.

Tumbling Block Quilt completed

I promised a few people a final view of the commissioned Tumbling Block quilt. Special thanks to my youngest daughter and her friend for helping me with the display. I think the feet at the bottom of the photo ought to make anyone smile 🙂 Happy Friday everyone

  1. I love that corner door. This post reminded me that, back when we were growing up, this was the time of year that new cars would arrive at those dealerships, all covered in paper.

The banjo humor was pretty funny 🙂
