Carriage Crossing/ThursdayDoors

The Badge

Back in June, we took a quick little get-away to Maize, Kansas. It’s a suburb of Wichita, Kansas and in the future, we plan on doing more sight-seeing there. But to give you an idea of the crop conditions there, I had front row view of this ‘Short Wheat’ that I’d mentioned in a previous post. This field was in front of our hotel. Fully grown at a height of about 6 – 8 inches. For perspective, you can see that the weeds on the edge of this field are taller than the wheat. Such a disaster for these farmers.

Our trip was pretty fleeting with my husband’s current health challenges. But the one noteworthy place we visited, other than our eldest daughter’s place, was in Yoder, Kansas. Yoder is an Amish community and Carriage Crossing restaurant was our destination. And after a 4 hour drive, this family-style restaurant became a fast favorite. We’ll be back!

The Thursday Doors portion today is a very nice handmade piece that will show some of the local talent. I had to wait a bit to get a good photo as it was entrance/exit and basically a busy spot. But worth the wait, don’t you agree??

I like the accents applied to this door. And I love the surrounding woodwork.

One thing you can give Amish credit for and that is superb handmade skills. I will get some of the quilt photos next time. They were all for sale if you’re ever in the neighborhood. And, yes, I peeked to see if they were hand stitched. Quilters critique. It’s a thing.

In my world of sewing at home, had a custom order request for some Dinner Napkins made with Kansas City Chiefs fabric. Dinner napkins typically measure 12 x 12. This team fabric is one of the better ones I’ve ever worked with. Not just because I’m their number 1 fan (haha), it’s really a good sturdy fabric! Finished and ready to mail this afternoon.

    • Trip goal was just to accomplish the drive so glad we could check that box. We did stay a weekend but hubs had to rest much longer than he liked. Thankful for the time spent with family. Thank you for checking in.
