The A in Anvil/#AtoZChallenge

During the month of April, I’m participating in the Blogging From A to Z Challenge for my 4th year in a row – 3 of which are on this blog. Each day, except Sundays, there will be a post for the letter of the day as well as keeping with my personal theme of Quilts and Quotes. Feel free to leave a comment! I’d love to hear from you! I’ve had the priviledge of learning to sew from a very young age from my mother and grandmother. Fast forward to my late twenties to early thirties, I began piddling with quilting. First was a signature quilt for a family reunion, then a crazy quilt, applique quilts and finally arriving at pieced quilts. I’m beginning an A to Z Quilt and using the gold and royal blue calicos that I’ve had put back for quite some time. I’m very eager to have a quilt of these colors as I adore this color scheme. Many thanks to the author of “500 Rotary-cut Quilt Blocks” by Judy Hopkins, for putting together such a versatile quilting book that fits my needs to a T this year.

My blocks will be 6 inch blocks and will include some extras along the way as it was sometimes easier to make 2 blocks rather than just a single one. That is also helpful when you mess one up; you still have another chance for redemption.

Just demonstrating a little part of the reason I’d choose The Anvil quilt block to begin my challenge this year.Our sometimes volatile Midwest weather had the above results on February 28, 2017. Pretty early for us Central Missourians to have this kind of action.

  3. Hi! I’m stopping in from AtoZ- I have always loved quilts and made a few small ones many years ago. Being that I was self-taught and had small children, I had to put it aside but it doesn’t stop me from buying old quilts that I find in thrift stores. 🙂

  5. Hurray, another crafty blog! My mother is also quilting her way through the A to Z challenge over at OzzyPip Quilts – I’m looking forward to seeing if you guys make any of the same blocks along the way. I’m cross stitching the challenge with a Buffy the Vampire Slayer alphabet at Fangirl Stitches. All the best with the challenge!

      • I’m Roslyn’s Mum Philipa (aka Ozzypip) I’ve been doing the challenge for the last 3 years but never come across you and only did this year because Ros found you. I shall enjoy following along with you. My blocks are 12″ finished and my quilt ended up huge. I went for scrappy as I didn’t want to buy any fabric for it… I did though… for the backing.

  6. That’s a really cool theme! I love anything involving art and creativity (though truth be told, my crafting is limited to some mildly impressive origami).

    Can’t wait to see how this quilt develops!
