What Did We Do All Day?

That is a popular question we’ve all been known to ask our children when we pick them up from school. So for your information, we had a Music with Math week here at the daycare. We used 4 popular children’s nursery rhymes to accomplish our learning theme. This Old Man began our week with a “rolling home” activity. Check out the pic with a pencil decorated as an Old Man rolling down the ramp.

We also practiced our addresses and make cut out houses for our “homes” to reinforce memorization. And guess what???!!! Weston age 4 can say his address now!!        Woot!Woot!

Took turns making these fingerprint ‘flies’ Counting Sets Practice

Shoo Fly Don’t Bother Me was appropriate after our State Fair left town. Do you know how many flies leave the fairgrounds each year and plague the homes in Sedalia?  Unbelievable!!

Homemade Yarn ‘Sheep’ pom pom Sensory experience, Counting/math, Fine Motor & Language skills

The Baa Baa Black Sheep day was the most fun for them I think. The tactile experience went way better with these homemade pom poms than with a store bought variety. I found they will also transform into great spiders come Halloween!

As you can see, our fence-building had an spin-off of adding tractors, houses, people and a ‘barn’ created by Macoy age 2. I was pretty proud of their creativity. And Ben finally came around after the initial tentativeness towards the pom poms. Yes, he thought they really were spiders. Glad we were able to coax him back to the fun. 🙂

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star was our grand finale’ Math song. We had Star rubbings, Star Bingo and some eye/hand coordination using the song as you would for ‘peas porridge hot’ hand clapping. Lots of giggles.
